St. Patrick’s season proves a swell time to kick up your feet to the sweet strings, reed instruments and pipes of traditional Irish music. Yet fellas, you may bring your

dancing at the Fifth Province Pub

darling to enjoy authentic Irish music over St. Pat’s or any time of year at the Fifth Province Pub.

Fifth Province is inside the Irish American Heritage Center, in the Chicago Mayfair  neighborhood. Ireland has four provinces, The pub name is inspired by a quote by Irish President Mary Robinson made when she visited the Heritage Center in 1991. The Irish in America, she said, are the country’s “Fifth Province.”

The pub features live music performed by local Irish bands, and on some occasions, music performed by bands that are on tour from Ireland. music starting at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. No cover, unless specified on their web site. Fifth Province also offers traditional Irish potables and food. The kitchen is open 6 p.m.-9 p.m. on Thursdays, and 6 p.m.-10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

*For a St. Patrick’s date on Saturday March 17th, the Irish American Heritage Center hosts the annual St. Patrick’s Festival, including live music in several of the Heritage Center rooms, and dance performances in the Auditorium.  More info here.*
