The Farewell Weekend — Kansas Sampler
The 28th annual Kansas Sampler Festival takes place in Winfield Kansas Saturday and Sunday, May 6th and 7th. The evening of May 6th, is a private Farewell Party for event coordinators, exhibitors, and volunteers.
This because after 28 years, the Festival is at sunset per se.
Since 1998, Kansas Sampler has hosted an annual tradition to showcase Kansas communities, entrepreneurs, artists, and Kansas-made products. The Festival moved across the Kansas landscape, presented in one location for two years in a row, including Pratt, Ottawa, Independence, Newton, Garden City, Concordia, Leavenworth, Liberal, Wamego, and now Winfield.
True to form, this year’s event includes exhibitors featuring Kansas businesses and organizations, live performances, informative demonstrations and vendors serving Kansas chow.
The one difference is that, after hours Saturday night, is a private Farewell. Folks, many of whom have been part of the Sampler for years, will toast to this chapter closing. “I’m going to wear my waterproof mascara,” says WenDee Rowe LaPlant, Assistant Director at the Kansas Sampler Foundation.
Behind the scenes they are planning the next chapter. The tradition will be passed on to a “Kansas Road Trip” series.
Ahhh, yet this weekend, the celebration is the Sampler. And all are invited to partake 10 a.m.-5p.m. May 6th, and 7th 10 a.m.-4p.m. May 7th at the Winfield Kansas “Island Park.”
Admission is $5.00 for adults/ $3.00 for kids 7-12. Free admission for kids 6 and under.
