Where I’ll cavort New Year’s Eve in Topeka

December 27, 2013

This Writer in Residence is in Topeka over the New Year and still fairly new to the city. When seeking places to celebrate, I was told that “The Biggest New Year’s Party in Topeka” at Ramada Convention Center downtown is the place to be, and thanks to the fine people at the Ramada, that’s where I’ll ring in 2014. I started as a “Writer in Residence” at Ramada today.

The Topeka Ramada Downtown Convention Center Atrium will be filled with folks ringing in 2014.

I arrived this afternoon, settled in my room then wandered around the hotel First Floor. I’m open for cavorting when I arrive at a new place and have chance to meet new people. Tonight ’tis quiet, with a sprinkle of guests spread among the bar and restaurant, the pool and the fitness room. Seems par for the course in the hotel world; folks are done with Christmas travel and saving up their cavorting for New Year’s Eve.

And cavort we will that night. Almost all the 256 guestrooms are reserved for New Year’s event. We will enjoy live music in the First Floor ballrooms and in the lower level Uncle Bo’s Live Blues Bar.

The festivity kicks off at 3:30 with musical entertainment in the Atrium. We guests will be treated to a dinner buffet, party favors, and midnight champagne toast. Then! … we will be treated to a late night breakfast around 1 a.m., and a New Year’s Day brunch.

What a way to bring in the New Year. Tippling, mingling, feasting, toasting, live music and dancing. I know I’ll dress up for the occasion, yet haven’t decided which dress to wear. I know I’ll meet lots of people and wonder what they’ll be like, yet don’t think hard about it; I’ll find out soon enough.

Topeka Ramada Downtown Convention Center is owned by a local hotelier. The interior design showcases classic architecture, some of it from the original Kansas governor’s mansion. I’ll share more about the Topeka Ramada in upcoming posts and articles.

Meanwhile, by the by, if you want to partake:
“The Biggest New Year’s Eve Party” Ramada hotel packages start at $250. No worries if all the Ramada guestrooms are taken.
