March, 2010____
the St. Patrick's season for wine lovers
I posed the question to Brian McCormick, Memaloose Winery winemaker : In these days of celebrating Irish traditions and Irish fare, when 'tis common to expect the celebratory quaff to fill a pint glass or a mug, what if I want to bring wine glasses and a corkscrew to the table?
---Try dry Alsacian wines, he recommended. Alsace is a wine region bordering Germany and France, and is known to produce white wines that are rich in flavor. So rich they may accompany an Irish stew or corned beef. They would also well accompany Ireland's fresh salmon. As would traditional Rosés. Those are basic notes to consider when shopping for wines to go with Irish fare. If you happen to be in Lyle, Washington, you could stop in to taste the Memaloose Winery whites and Rosés, and consider them to accompany your Irish menu. More information: Memaloose Winery
Irish celebrations Wine lovers who want to get downright Irish, are invited to the Thomas Family Winery, in Madison Indiana, for Irish music and festivities. More information: Thomas Family Winery
