Re-purposing for most unique holiday gifts - Love the Vintage Garage Chicago Holiday Trunk Show

Have a blast shopping at the Vintage Garage Chicago Holiday Trunk Show, and be green while at it.

Shopping vintage is a form of re-purposing, and in a sense recycling items. In the process, you’ll find one-of-a-kind gifts. To boot, vintage items have quality that is hard to find today.

“Everything our vendors sell is at least 25 years old,” says Melissa Sands, co-owner of Vintage Promotions, LLC. “So much of what was made in 1985 and before was made in the U.S. or Europe where now everything is made in China or Taiwan.” These days the quality just isn’t there anymore, she says. “So not only are you recycling by shopping vintage, most of the time you are even getting a higher quality product than you could even get today.”

Gifts you may find for yourself and those on your list:
Vintage jewelry from Victorian times to mod 1960’s, women’s vintage clothing, industrial items, furniture, and knickknacks.

Holiday merchandise includes vintage holiday sweaters and vintage toys that will bring back memories, says Ms. Sands. “Also ornaments, wonder plaid to decorate with for the holidays and plenty of great unique gifts like sterling state charms from the 1960s.”

Also, men’s “handsome vintage” provided by Richard’s Fabulous Finds including bow ties, pocket squares, boutonnieres, tweed jackets, cuff links and hats.

In the neighborhood:
Local restaurants join the festive spirit. Ann Sather restaurant, 1147 West Granville, offers free cinnamon rolls with breakfast if you mention you’re going to attend the Vintage Garage show, and M Henrietta, 1133 West Granville, will compliment a coffee tea or cider with a breakfast order.

More information: The Vintage Garage Chicago Holiday Market is held 11 a.m.-6p.m. at 1134 West Granville in the Chicago Edgewater neighborhood, Saturday-Sunday, December 8-9, 2012.

Street parking is available. The Granville Red Line ‘L’ stop is less than a block away, and the 36 Broadway bus stops right in front.
