The Granada Theatre is packed again. Another 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster two-door Town Car is up for raffle.
‘Tis 61 years later, and the Granada Theatre is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the theatre Grand Reopening.
To be continued. Let’s pause to glimpse at what happened in between.
The Granada Theatre — Intermission
In 1948, the Granada was a movie palace, yet in the popular days of motion picture theatres. By the 1960’s the attendance to movie shows had plummeted. This as households came to have one or more TVs, and as Drive-In theatres filled the landscapes for outdoor cinema excursions.
The Granada Theatre seats grew more empty, causing the business to suffer, and in turn so did the upkeep of the building. The theatre closed in 1982, and the building fell into disrepair. In the early 1990’s a group of local supporters joined forces to save the Granada Theatre from the wrecking ball.
They formed an organization that led to the Granada Theatre restoration and re-opening. And what a grand way to celebrate, with a veritable flashback to a previous grand day.
