Love the lakefront by twilight
Fellas, treat your darling to a lakefront picnic followed by lakefront traditions like Buckingham Fountain Light Shows, and Navy Pier Fireworks.
The Chicago lakfront stretches over 26 miles, lined with bike and walking paths. These include public grills along the way.
Bring charcoal and matches, picnic supplies, select food & beverages. Be the grill master and the host to a picnic sup.
Clean up afterward, but of course.
All the while, enjoy the lapping Lake Michigan waves that expand beyond view, and the vast sky above.

Light Show

Arrive to Buckingham Fountain, 500 S. Lake Shore Drive, where a music and light show is featured every hour on the hour from dusk till 10 p.m.
After dark, between Light Shows, the fountain glows softly with over 800 lights.
Folks gather in clusters, silhouettes against the soft light. Some twirl glowing toys of various shapes and colors. Most glowing toys flash at the touch of a button.
Venders sell these toys for $5 and up. It’s okay to try to barter.
On the hour, whoosh! the water jets shoot high, and piped-in music starts. Fountain lights show brighter, and change colors, amber, violet, red and blue. The center jet shoots up to 150 feet.
People spin their glowing toys. This is a good time to promenade your darling to around the fountain -- at a walking or running pace, whatever meets your fancy. The most fun thing about this is the wind usually causes the high-jet water to spray in one direction – that captures folks passing by.
Usually a photographer is around to offer pictures by the fountain, for purchase in a frame. Prompt your darling to pose with you, and give her the photo as a keepsake.
The music-and-light show lasts for 20 minutes. After which the lights and jets fall tame again.
Fireworks
Start north toward Navy Pier, at 600 E. Grand. You’ll see it along the lakefront, its glowing lights, including the Ferris Wheel.
Navy Pier offers free Wednesday and Saturday night fireworks shows set to music.
Fabulous! if you invite her on a summer Wednesday or Saturday. Yet not necessary.
At Navy Pier you may treat her to sweet roasted nuts, an ice cream cone, "Country Fair" type rides, or a dance and a potable in the Beer Garden.
The distance between the Fountain and Navy Pier is approximates 10 hardy Chicago blocks. Hoofin'-it includes a gorgeous lakefront walk, and you may enjoy it all along the lakefront path.
As you walk, perhaps with your arm around her, take the lake side.
