“Sweets for the sweet” remains a classic gesture, especially if you present them while rosy-cheeked because you’re sweet on her.
A box of chocolates seems the most classic sweet, yet you may opt to select other prized candies.
Find out what your darling prefers, then make a choice of what to present when you arrive. Here’s how: ask her.
Find her sweets preference during ‘courting chats’
You want the sweets you present to be a surprise.
assorted chocolates
Rest assured that in this modern day, your darling will not anticipate your arriving with sweets. Conduct your research while chatting with her during the “get to know you” phase — via phone voice to voice chats (not text!).
Ask “do you have a sweet tooth?” Add comment, “It seems most gals do,” — or refer to “most ladies” or “women.” Comment on your own sweet treat preferences, or lack thereof.
Listen to her responses; take secret note. Proceed to other subjects. Ask her on a date. Believe-you-me — though there’s a chance she may wonder why you brought up sweets during courting chats, she will not anticipate your showing up for the date with sweets.
Where to find sweets for your sweet
— Box of chocolates.
Find a classic candy store near you by asking around or searching online. If there isn’t one, some department stores offer select candy boxes.
Godiva, a noted Belgian chocolatier, has boutique outlets throughout the United States. They also offer options to order online. As does United States based Russell Stover.
In the boxes of chocolates realm, some include a map of chocolates provided; others leave it to the element of surprise. Oft, you find out whether or not there is a “map” after opening the box.
Either way, the chocolates show a tantalizing, decorated assortment.
—Other Sweets
If she doesn’t favor chocolate, other options include Peanut Brittle, Marzipan, Vanilla Almond Bark specialties, Cinnamon Roasted Nuts sweet fruits. Ask around; search online. You will likely discover treasures.
—If she’s diabetic
During the “courting chat” inquiry she replies she’s diabetic. Ask, does she still crave sweets?
Alternative gifts include, sugar-free chocolates and trail mixes.
—— Sugar free chocolates. For example Frango offers Sugar Free Mint Chocolates boxes. These may be ordered online or found at Macy’s stores.
—— Trail Mix gift. Present a sugar-free Trail Mix of nuts and dried fruits. Health food grocers offer packaged selections. Tie a bow around them to make them festive — red for Christmas season fete, blue for Hanukkah fete.
Embrace the gesture
This is a grand gesture on your part, presenting sweets when your darling answers the door. It surprises her, and that’s what you want. Yet she may or may not know how to respond to that surprise.
Prompt her to pause, as you introduce the gift. Make it short and sweet, for example, “I chose these for you because ….” or “This is what I know about these ….” and elaborate per why you chose this for her.
Let her place them somewhere safe, then proceed to the date.
After the date, your darling will open the gift, and savor it as she recalls her time with you.
