Spring, 2015 ___________________________________
Nora’s Room at Sweet Acres Inn B&B, Eudora Kansas, is haven for this ‘Writer in Residence.’ I feel it as a nook in which to relax, and I may write letters here.
This guestroom is decorated in delicate aquas and greens, among the walls, wall art, and large pillows atop the bed. All to suggest a beachfront ambient. It has a hardwood floor and a soft green area rug, and whitewashed woodwork, including an armoire, nightstands, and a corner desk.
The room colors reflect vividly in natural light from the west and south facing windows. The windows may be opened to allow a cross breeze. Invigorating! To add to it, I may open the back door to access a private enclosed wood balcony.
I may love sitting at the private, outdoor table, or cozying inside, in the white wicker chair.
Mostly this writer finds herself sitting at the corner desk, to cozy up to her computer. I need to push back the beauty mirror to make room. By the by, fellas, that’s a mirror that magnifies, and has a surrounding light. Occasionally I nudge the computer back to place the beauty mirror forefront. Gals, you understand why.
Second to loving the corner desktop, is my loving the corner desk drawer where to stash business cards, notes and reminders, postage stamps, favorite pens, and Sweet Acres Inn stationery. I put it all to use — including writing letters on Sweet Acres stationery with my favorite pens, and putting stamps on the envelopes. The Eudora post office is so ver-ly close to deposit these letters. Yet, if I am leaving Sweet Acres on a Sunday and prefer a Eudora postmark to match the stationery address, I place the letters on the second floor hall lamp table, and Ms. Howig mails them for me.
I feel comforted and inspired here.
_______________
Namesake
While I imbibe in the haven of Nora’s Room as Sweet Acres, I understand that ’tis named for Nora May Everley, a previous Sweet Acres resident. I learned this among other Sweet Acres Inn namesakes. Find more information here.
